Optiver leads investment round in MEMX Options exchange

Optiver is pleased to be the lead investor in the equity funding round to support the launch of the MEMX Options exchange.

Building on the success of the MEMX equities exchange, which has become the largest independent US equities exchange, MEMX Options is designed according to the needs of market participants. Employing a price-time model and leveraging MEMX’s exchange architecture and state-of-the-art infrastructure, the exchange will bring the benefits of the MEMX model to a broader range of investors.

As part of its commitment, Optiver will assume a MEMX board seat, as well as chairmanship of a newly-created Options Market Structure Committee. MEMX Options is scheduled to launch in August.

The investment is an initiative of Optiver’s Principal Strategic Investments (PSI) team, which forms long-term strategic relationships with companies linked to our core mission of improving the market. The aim is to impart our knowledge and philosophy to the companies we invest in.

“With this investment, we are proud to contribute to a US options market structure that will boost competition, drive innovation and improve outcomes for all investors,” said Rutger Brinkhuis, CEO of Optiver US. “When launched, MEMX Options will represent a promising addition to the US trading landscape, offering options investors the benefits of a model designed specifically with market participants in mind.”

Other participants in the funding round include Belvedere Strategic Capital, Chicago Trading Company and IMC, as well as existing MEMX investors Citadel Securities and Virtu Financial.
