From its Commodities headquarters in London, Optiver is seeking an experienced Power Trader to lead / assist in the build out of a new desk trading EU Power markets.  This is a true greenfield site opportunity with strong financial backing and the potential to have significant impact in the firm.  To excel, you will have access to world class trading tech and be supported by top talent globally.  You will be granted freedom to steer the growth of the business and work within Optiver’s renowned highly collaborative environment.

What you’ll do:

Set up an EU power trading operation in intraday, day-ahead and forward markets.
This will include:
– Building trading strategies in EU power markets
– Building or guiding the development of models and other analytics
– Working with other departments to build adequate risk management frameworks or execution algorithms
– Collaborating with existing trading desks to leverage Optiver knowledge and infrastructure
– Helping hire the right talent to expand the team: traders, analysts, researchers
– Training junior traders that join the desk

Who you are:

Essential:
– Proven experience trading European power e.g. intraday, day-ahead, forwards
– Deep understanding and interest into the fundamentals of European and global energy markets
– Experience working with power and gas models
– Understanding of the competitive landscape and players of the European energy markets
– Entrepreneurial spirit and interest in building a trading business
– A track record in risk-taking and risk management

– Data Analysis skills

Desirable:
– Familiar with weather data and models
– Interest in mentorship and training of junior traders
