At Optiver, we recruit technical problem solvers. Our employees come from a variety of fields—most with no previous trading industry experience—but they do have a few things in common: they are quantitative, entrepreneurial, and always looking to grow. Our traders and software engineers both go through comprehensive training programs upon starting their careers, so you’ll be set up for success, no matter your background.

Trader Training: From the training room to the trading floor in 12 weeks.

Rigorous. Immersive. Intensive. Our Trader Training is designed to quickly equip new trading hires with all the knowledge and skills needed to be able to make an immediate impact when they join their desk. It begins with our Options Theory course. The course covers everything from what options are to how we price and trade them. Because every new hire completes the Trader Training Program, we welcome applicants from all backgrounds, with no prior industry experience required.

After Options Theory, you’ll begin a period of simulated trading. During simulated trading, you’ll devise and execute your own trading strategies using our real-time, live-market data and proprietary trading systems. It’s as close as you can get to the real-world experience of trading.

We’ll also pair you with an experienced trader to mentor you throughout the beginning of your career. Additionally, we’ll prepare you for the required financial regulatory exams. By the end of 12 weeks, you’ll be trained, licensed and ready to hit the floor trading with the support of a mentor and team who are all deeply invested in your success.

Tech Training: Boot Camp to boots on the ground in five weeks.

As an engineer, you’ll spend your first five weeks with us in Tech Boot Camp. The first part of Boot Camp consists of the same Options Theory course our traders take. From there, you’ll spend a week getting to know our trading systems inside and out. You’ll gain an in-depth understanding of the designs and principals behind our trading systems and, in the process, meet and build relationships with our senior engineering staff. You’ll also get a chance to do some simulated trading—a unique opportunity to experience the system you’ll be working on from the vantage point of the end-user.

After Boot Camp you’ll join your team and begin the hands on, experiential learning process that will set you on a path towards contributing to our rapidly evolving systems. In addition to having a dedicated mentor, you’ll be working side-by-side with experienced engineers sharing their knowledge and helping you grow. You’ll work closely with your teammates, as well as folks across the organization including traders and ops staff. This interdisciplinary, collaborative and inherently iterative way of working provides an unusually fast feedback loop. Your work will be put to the test in real time, in all kinds of market conditions. It’s a formula for near constant optimization—of both the systems you build and of yourself as an engineer.
